Competing against Chippenham’s other 2 Bowls Club’s and Chippenham Towns Folk Festival at the same day as our annual Open Day (BE Big Bowls Weekend) we still managed to attract 19 individuals who were interested in the sport and possibility of joining our Club welcome to you all.

In between our weekly coaching sessions for new & current Club members we managed to accommodate Chippenham’s Cubs Troop (40 in numbers) in April & Scouts Troop (44 in numbers) in May for the evening. A big thank you to Jo (wife of Club Captain Paul) who organised both events plus all those Club members who helped/assisted us both occasions.

Tony’s “Schoobowls” Project.

In February 2024 with the help & support of Simon (WASP) & Jessica, Emma & Selina (Chippenham Sports Partnership) I was given the opportunity of introducing the Sport of Bowls to the “younger generations” ( local School’s) within the Chippenham area, at the end of year 960+ School Students had received some Bowls activities.

This year, I was lucky enough to be invited back into 2 Primary School’s to help & support their School’s in National School’s Sports Week 2025. We are at the early planning stages of setting up some form of bowls club pre/after Sports club activities. Looking forward to working with Lucy (Derry Hill) & Mary (Monkton Park) again.

Total number’s to date including the Cubs & Scouts events now exceeds 1500+ participants. A big thank you to all those who have supported/encouraged me since 2024

Captain Paul Hall’s Season Update 2025

Hello Everyone,

It has been a rollercoaster ride for me being this year’s Club Captain and I would like to thank everyone for their advice and support so far.

A brief update on how well we have all been doing.

We started the year off trying to introduce 36 Cubs /Parents on 25 April and 40 Scouts/Parents on 16 May to bowling with tremendous help from Tony and various Club members.

We had our annual May Bank Holiday Club Tour to Northampton area and it was well attended. Apart from the vegetable-gate scandal at the hotel, we managed to enjoy ourselves in the usual manner, ably helped by having Wetherspoons and Green King pubs next door to the hotel. It goes without saying we had some cracking 4 days of bowling too.

Dave Williams has assured me that next year the hotel will be much better so please ensure you show your interest by signing the form for next year’s tour to Northumberland.

We had a tremendous and very well supported Mystery tour, first stop at Cheltenham for lunch and then off to Burford Town Bowls Club for a very enjoyable game. Thanks to Dave and Anthea for organising this.

The various leagues appear to be doing very well and my thanks to those that answer the call when Team Captains are short of players.

There are a lot of Club league games and competitions, along with County/BE matches and competitions that appear to be creating tightly packed scheduling of games. This unfortunately has also impacted on our Friday roll ups such that there is a new Club pairs competition to help with reinvigorating the Friday roll up nights. So please support this as best you can even if not playing by cheering on others, but also we have a lot of friendlies this year and August is a very busy month, so please support these matches too.

We have had some promising newbies join us following some coaching by Tony and with your help I would like to see them included in some of the league squads if possible.

Recently there was an incident this week in John Coles Park whereby “travellers” had gained access to the area around the tennis courts and play areas probably through the open gate from the car park. Thankfully they were swiftly moved on by the police and all gate lock combination numbers have been changed.

Please be vigilant when opening and closing the gates and above all be safe.

Happy Bowling Everyone and stay healthy.

Paul Hall
